Italian Cooking & Living: August 2005 Contest

Italian Cooking and Living, Alitalia Airlines and Cooking Vacations International have teamed up to give you the chance to win an exclusive cooking vacation getaway to Villa Ortaglia, a 17th-century farmhouse in Montepulciano, Tuscany. The grand prize includes round-trip airfare for two to Italy, 5 nights accomodation, daily breakfast, three hands-on cooking classes at Villa Ortaglia, Montepulciano and a visit to Crociani wine cellar. Five runners-up will receive a one-year subscription to Italian Cooking And Living Magazine.

Villa Ortaglia

The Ortaglia Relais offers an exciting Tuscan culinary experience set in the hillside of Montepulciano. Throughout time, Tuscany has been known for its diverse cuisine and now you can learn the secrets of Tuscan cooking in an intimate and authentic setting.

Under the guidance of Chef Maria, participants will learn the secrets, history and culinary traditions of Tuscany with three diverse menus.

Every class takes place in the country kitchen at Ortaglia, a beautiful farmhouse built in the 1600s that has recently been renovated. The renovation changed the farmhouse into a five-star luxury accommodation. Each suite is decorated with antiques, maintaining the traditional feel of old-world charm in the heart of Tuscany.

Ortaglia's Cooking Program

Classes start at 5:00pm and last approximately three hours. During the class, Maria will teach a full menu from appetizer to dessert, starting each course from scratch and using only local seasonal products. The menu changes according to seasonal ingredients. At the end of each class, everyone eats the fruits of their labor at dinner. Local table wine is included.
