John Sineno

John Sineno, is a twenty-eight year veteran of the NYC Fire Department, an award winning cook and cookbook author. Also known as "Mamma Sineno," because he looks after his fire-fighting "family" as if he were their mother, John is greatly respected as one of the best known firehouse chefs in America.

Though his days of putting out fires are over, John hasn't hung up his apron, and continues to endear a younger generation of firefighters with his extraordinary culinary talents. "Walking into a new firehouse for the first time was a rather strange experience," John says, "I was concerned about starting off on the right foot, but the only question the captain asked me was if I could cook."

John retired in 1990, after the publication of the first "Firefighter's Cookbook" and published "The New Firefighter's Cookbook" in 1996. In both books, John shares old and new favorite recipes from his own kitchen and the kitchens of other fire-fighting chefs.
