Monterosso - Liguria

Monterosso is pricey, but youth-oriented, member of the five villages that make up Cinque Terre. It has the most extensive beaches of any of the towns, and the bars and clubs are good for nightlife. Because it's the northernmost of the Cinque Terre towns, you can easily travel to any of the other towns on the line. (Purchase a Cinque Terre Tourist Ticket, about $7, to get unlimited trips throughout Cinque Terre.) Plus, you disembark practically on the beach, so it's all very accessible. Monterosso features the largest free beach in all five towns, and there are a few other free beaches nearby.

Pretty much the only hotel lodging available—as opposed to individual rooms or hostels you can bargain for on your own—are here or in Vernazza, but hotels fill up early. Of special note among the shops and restaurants is Cantina di Sciacchetrà, a supermarket with free wine tastings and fresh, local produce.
