Treviso - Veneto
Like
Venice, Trevoso is filled with canals and surrounded by two rivershence
its nickname, Città d'Acqua, or "City of Water."
The two rivers, Sile and Botteniga, give rise to many canals throughout
the townthough it's not quite in the league of Venice. Lodging
is expensive, but it is worth stopping by for the boat trips down
the river, as well as viewing the frescoes that gave rise to Treviso's
other nickname: the Città Dipinta, or "painted [i.e.,
frescoed] city." An itinerary at the APT office in Piazza dei
Signori discusses the extensive frescos at the city's three churches.
Sights
Fashion was practically born here, since Benetton was founded in Treviso.
If you came for shopping, you'll definitely get your fill.
The seven-domed Duomo includes a Capella Malchiostro with paintings
by Titian and others. The Museo Civico contains more Titian works,
and archeological artifacts discovered in the town. Meanwhile, Palazzo
dei Trecento, in the Piazza dei Signori, is a palace that was restored/rebuilt
after being bombed during a WWII air raid on Good Friday, 1944. Also,
several villas by Palladio can be toured nearby
Transportation
Take a Lamarc Trevigiani bus from nearby towns or an ACTV bus from
Venice. Alternatively, take a train from Venice, Padua, and a few
other major cities.
