Campania

The wines of Campania were being produced even in the days of the ancient Romans. The region is known for its diverse soils, from the volcanic land of Naples to the calcium-filled rock of the Sorrento peninsula and the island of Capri. Most of the vineyards in the region are on hillsides or mountain slopes. The main grape varietals of the area are Aglianico, Sangiovese and Barbera, but Trebbiano Toscano, Malvasia Bianca di Candia and Greco di Tofu are also seen. The Taurasi DOCG is the most notable wine, but many other DOCs and IGTs are produced.
