Two opposing forces affect grape growing in Liguria: The maritime, favorable climate and the rugged lands. Therefore, wine production is only a limited part of the region's economy. One of the distinguishing features of the Ligurian vineyards is the number of varietals grown (more than 100). The most well-known wines produced here are Cinque Terre, Dolceacque and Sciacchetrà.
