Calabrian MostaccioliFrom Italian Cooking and Living, October/November 2003
These hard cookies are also called nzudda.
- 4 cups "00" flour, plus extra
- 11/2 cups honey
- 2 tablespoons anisette liqueur
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons butter
Preheat oven to 300°. In a bowl, combine the flour, honey,
anisette and eggs. When the mixture comes together, turn it out onto a floured
surface and knead until smooth, adding more flour if the dough is too sticky.
Roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness, and cut it into various shapes. (Some
traditional shapes are animals, dolls or letters of the alphabet.) Place the
cookies on buttered baking sheets, and bake until golden brown, about 25 to
30 minutes. Serves 12
