Spicy Tomato Crostini

From Italian Cooking and Living, October/November 2003

This easy tuna dish, tonno 'mpurnatu, is seared in a pan, then finished in the oven.

  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 4 tuna fillets, about 6 ounces each, skinless
  • salt
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed

Preheat oven to 400°. In a nonstick ovenproof skillet or grill pan, warm the olive oil over high heat. Add the tuna fillets, and sear for 30 seconds on each side. Add salt and the crushed garlic, and place the skillet in the oven. Cook until the tuna is medium-rare, about 4 to 6 minutes. Remove, and serve immediately. Serves 4
